When a Simple Cold Becomes Something More
Do you feel your chest tighten or wheeze after a mild cold, a long walk in cool wind, or exposure to dust?
Or notice that your “runny nose” never quite clears through the winter?
These are more than seasonal irritations — they’re your body’s signals of Kapha and Vata imbalance, often worsened by damp weather, poor digestion, and weak respiratory fire or low immunity (Pranavaha Srotas Agni).
🩺 From an Ayurvedic Lens
Kapha dosha governs mucus, lubrication, and stability. When aggravated (by cold foods, dairy, late nights, or humidity), it produces excess mucus and heaviness.
Vata dosha adds dryness and irregular movement — the “whistling” or wheezing sound in breath comes from Vata is more obstructed by sticky factor of Kapha.
So the body tries to expel this through the nose, throat, and chest.
In modern medicine it terms as - inflammation, mucus, cough, retention, airway obstruction, sensitivity which becomes wheeze and rhinitis or runny nose or in worst cases Asthma.
